IMF advises Ukraine to postpone reduction in VAT and profit tax

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stressed the need to postpone the reduction from 2014 in VAT to 17% and the profit tax to 16%, which is envisaged in the Tax Code of Ukraine.
IMF Mission Chief for Ukraine Nikolay Gueorguiev and IMF Resident Representative in Ukraine Jerome Vacher said this at a meeting with people's deputies who are members of the parliamentary committees on budget and tax and customs policy, the information department of the Verkhovna Rada secretariat reported.
"During the meeting IMF Mission Chief for Ukraine Nikolay Gueorguiev and IMF Resident Representative in Ukraine Jerome Vacher expressed the need to postpone the reduction from 2014 in VAT to 17% and the profit tax to 16%," reads the statement.
The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada committee on tax and customs policy, Vitaliy Khomutynnyk, in turn, noted that if such proposals are submitted by the government, the committee is ready to consider them, given the complex forecasts for the revenue side of budgets for 2014. The MP did not rule out that such a bill could get be supported by most lawmakers.
The meeting participants discussed a number of issues, including the situation with VAT refund, the use of treasury bills, a possible increase in excise duties, etc.
