Higher trade volume between member states inside Eurasian Economic Union

2013-10-28 09:54:14

The Eurasian Economic Union will allow increasing trade turnover between the member states, BelTA learned from Vasily Markovich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Czechia, as he commented on results of the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Minsk.

“The Eurasian Economic Union will allow raising the trade turnover between the member states, will enable trade and economic cooperation with other countries of the Euro-Asian bloc on equal terms. In the world where globalization plays a fundamental role it is important to have reliable allies and partners. It will allow finding our own niches in the global labor division,” believes the diplomat. It is the different degrees of integration that force countries to unite at various levels, he believes. “In any association all the countries have to complete the same preparations. Only then their union will be equal and mutually beneficial,” stressed Vasily Markovich.

Speaking about the agreement of the Customs Union heads of state to remove exemptions and restrictions from Customs Union and Single Economic Space trade regulations in the future, the Ambassador remarked that the removal of barriers will allow greatly increasing the exchange of merchandise, services, capital, technologies, and workforce. It will accelerate trade turnover growth and will confirm the equal rights of partners inside the union, he believes.

Speaking about prospects of the Customs Union, Vasily Markovich said it is necessary to expand the union but wisely. “The countries, which are willing to enter the Customs Union, have to bring their legislation into compliance with the Union’s legislation and have to fulfill other requirements, too. Only then the union will be equal and viable,” explained the Ambassador.

The diplomat also said that Ukraine’s integration with the European Union may result in Ukraine losing markets of the Customs Union as the Customs Union member states will have to protect their market from cheap European Union exports. “It is an objective fact, don’t try to find political rationale in it,” said Vasily Markovich.
