Large-scale Ukrainian exporters, including representatives of Louis Dreyfus, Serna (Glencore), Alfred C. Toepfer, Cargill, Bunge and Nibulon oppose the possible foundation of the Grain pool between Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan, which is planned to take place in six months.
According to Andrei Vadaturskyy, Deputy General Director of Nibulon, such developed countries as Australia and Canada, which until recently had the active state monopoly on grain exports, already declined to realize such mechanism because of its inefficiency.
According to him, the "Grain OPEC" is some sort of additional barrier that the Government of Ukraine wants to create, and will make the negative impact on development of the industry.
Anna Derevyanko, Executive Director at European Business Association, said that Ukraine itself is the strong player on the global grain market. Creation of the grain association with Russia and Kazakhstan will make Ukraine dependent on these countries. In addition, the EU repeatedly expressed against participation of Ukraine in such negotiations, while the country expects to sign a free trade zone with the EU.
