According to the statement released by the company, Astarta has acquired sugar production plant in Poltava region.  The company stated that the newly acquired plant has the capacity of processing 6 thousand tons of sugar beets per day. The acquisition has been approved by the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine. The plant has been owned by “Saharniy Soyuz “Ukrros” previously. There were no additional details released regarding the purchase.

UkrAgroConsult comment: due to several companies exiting sugar production industry in 2012 and early in 2013, sugar supply has declined, which led to slight increase of sugar price. Astarta has been consistent with its strategy of increasing production capacity over the past 2 years, remaining largest sugar producer in Ukraine.
