Grain export quotas extended until June 1

2011-03-09 16:39:57

Grain export quotas will be extended until June 1, 2011 in order to stabilize the prices of agricultural products, Head of the Analytical Department at the Association of Ukrainian Grain Traders Artem Korytsky has said.

He said that the government would extend quotas for grain exports until June 1, because the significant reserves of grain stocks at certified grain elevators had been confirmed. Earlier, the government planned to introduce quotas until the end of the marketing year.

"The government is by no means planning to increase the volume of grain quotas, although it was earlier planned to increase export quotas by one million tons of wheat and by 1.7 million tons of corn," Korytsky said.

Ukraine has exported more than 5.5 million tons of grain since the beginning of the marketing year.

On December 8, 2010, the Cabinet of Ministers extended grain export quotas until the end of March 2011. Under a government decision, the quota for the export of wheat and corn was increased by 500,000 tons and 1 million tons respectively.

Until December 31, 2010, the Cabinet of Ministers introduced quotas for the exports of wheat and a mixture of wheat and rye (meslin) in the volume of 500,000 tons, corn - two million tons, and barley - 200,000 tons.
