Prices for grain crops have currently shrunk by UAH 50-70 (per ton) compared to last year. However, the price of bread on the domestic market is only being formed, whereas price indicators on world markets have already been formed.
First Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine Ivan Bisiuk said this at a press briefing on Monday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"The prices for grain of the new harvest currently vary depending on the region. In particular, the price of third-class wheat is from UAH 1,470 to UAH 1,800 per ton and the price of six-class wheat for forage ranges between UAH 1,340 and UAH 1,610 per ton. The price of grain traders for barley ranges from UAH 1,420 to UAH 1600 per ton. Current grain prices in Ukraine in 2013 are UAH 50-70 lower compared with 2012," he said.
Compared to May 2013, when the decline reached UAH 300 per ton, he said, the decline on the global market was UAH 500. At the same time, the official said that the current prices are UAH 100-200 higher than those set in the same period in 2011. Therefore, "it's currently impossible to talk about a certain critical decline in grain prices, and there are no objective conditions for the destabilization of the market in the near future," Bisiuk said.
He said that as of July 15 farmers threshed early grain and leguminous crops on 64% of the planned area.
