Introduction of high quality standards for goods within the frames of signing the Association Agreement with the EU can result in the rise of their prices.
This opinion was expressed by Academic Director of the Institute for Economic Research and Political Consultations Veronika Movchan during public debates in Kyiv, dedicated to discussion of economic consequences of signing the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
"Introduction of high quality standards in production will lead to improvement of the quality of goods and, respectively, to the increase of their cost in the short-term perspective," she said.
Movchan believes that due to strengthening of protection of intellectual property rights, which is also envisaged by the agreement, the cost of goods, having the intellectual component, will grow.
According to her, due to abolishment of EU subsidies for agricultural products, relevant products may rise in price.
"Also, as a result of the signature of the Association Agreement it is not worth expecting reduction of prices for imported automobiles. Their cost may reduce only in 10-15 years following the signature of the agreement," she noted.
