Ukraine plans to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Prime Minister Mykola Azarov announced this at a meeting with the President of the Council of States of the Parliament of the Swiss Confederation, Filippo Lombardi, the Cabinet of Ministers' press office reported Wednesday.

"We count on the support of Switzerland in this matter," Azarov said.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international entity of 34 most economically developed countries in the world - the majority of states represent the European Union, the USA, Australia, Korea, Japan and others. The OECD is headquartered in Paris.

The Convention on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development was signed on December 14, 1960 in Paris, came into force on September 30, 1961. The treaty was concluded for the purpose of coordination of economic policies in OECD countries and providing assistance to developing countries. The OECD is also actively cooperating with the countries of the world, which are not members of the organization, within the framework of special programmes, international events, etc.
