Sunflower production will be profitable in 2011 - expert

In 2011, profitability of sunflower production will make up 100 percent on average, says Roman Slasten, Agroefficiency project coordinator with the Association Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.
At the same time, the expert believes, a decision about the terms of its growing on one land plot once in seven years can have a negative impact on sunflower production in Ukraine. Agricultural producers will be fined for violation of this decision.
In the meantime, fines are not large, but their increase will bring to reduction of sunflower seeds production, and consequently to the problems in the oil and fat industry, which is one of the most successful sectors in Ukraine, Roman Slasten believes.
As UKRINFORM reported, in the nearest future administrative and criminal responsibility will be strengthened for damage to the land and its ineffective use.
"We develop a comprehensive approach to strengthening control over the quality state of land resources, in particular, over the quality of farm soils. Over two dozens of years, a considerable part of Ukrainian lands became exhausted by unfair land users, who are interested only in personal gain rather than preservation of fertility of Ukrainian black soils," Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said.
According to Ukroliyaprom Association, for 2010 calendar year, sunflower seed production in Ukraine made up 2.45 million tons.
In total, in Ukraine in 2010, 2.986 million tons of vegetable oil was produced.
