German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has said he hopes that Ukraine will sign the Association Agreement with the European Union this autumn.
He said this in Kyiv on Friday after meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"I hope that the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will be signed this autumn," he said, adding that this agreement exists only on the basis of shared values.
According to Westerwelle, Germany welcomes the progress made by Ukraine towards European integration. However, Ukraine still needs to take steps in reforms, especially in the legal sphere, he said.
The German foreign minister said that Ukraine is an integral part of Europe, as a bridge between East and West, and now it is at a historic crossroads.
