No reason for hryvnia devaluation - Azarov

2013-06-17 11:44:37

Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has called on citizens to trust the official information of the National Bank of Ukraine on the hryvnia exchange rate.

He said this at a press conference after the international conference ABC: Ukraine & Partners on Friday.

"There is nothing more reliable than the forecast of the National Bank. Follow this information, these forecasts - they are completely consistent with the forecasts that we had made in the state budget," Azarov said.

Commenting on international agencies' information of a possible depreciation of the hryvnia, the prime minister made sure that there are no grounds for this. "I think that our people got tired of hearing gossip and rumors about how much the hryvnia will cost by the end of 2013. I think I have heard this anecdote since 2010 more than once," the head of government said.

He said that from time to time there is information that the hryvnia may be weakened. However, he said, the government and the National Bank keep the exchange rate policy under control.

As known, the international rating agency Standard & Poor's announced the possibility of reducing the rate of the national currency of Ukraine to 9 UAH per dollar this year.
