Agriculture Ministry: This year's grain harvest could reach 53-54 m tons

This year farmers are planning to gather one of the biggest harvests in the period of Ukraine's independence. In particular, it is expected that the gross grain harvest will reach 53-54 million tons.

Director of the Department of Agriculture at the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food Oleksandr Demydov said this at a meeting of the headquarters on coordinating the harvesting campaign, the ministry's press service told UKRINFORM.

"We held the first meeting of the headquarters on coordinating the harvesting campaign. It will be working constantly so as to respond as quickly as possible to the situation in the fields. The measures to ensure the harvesting, as well as forecasts for a possible yield, were discussed. As for technical support for the harvesting campaign, farmers have already prepared a significant number of combine harvesters. In addition, the State Food and Grain Corporation will send its combine harvesters to different regions in Ukraine. The main thing is that farmers have enough resources so as to harvest early grain and leguminous crops in 10-15 days," Demydov said.

He also said that in general, farmers had increased the area under grain crops in Ukraine, in particular, the area under winter wheat and corn.
