The European Union invites Ukraine to begin a dialogue on cooperation between the country and the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly) newspaper has reported, referring to Ukrainian and European diplomats.

"The European Union officially addressed the Ukrainian side in writing with a proposal to start a dialogue and hold consultations at the level of experts on the 'Eurasian' affairs of Ukraine in order to have a clear vision of its future plans and commitments to the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Council," the newspaper reported.

According to Ukrainian sources, the basic message is the assurance that it its relations with the Eurasian structures Ukraine does not intend to allow infringement on state sovereignty and will strictly adhere to its commitments assumed within the WTO and those envisaged by the already initialed Association Agreement with the EU.

The newspaper's sources said that after the signing of the agreement with the European Union Ukraine will have a powerful shield against attempts to "draw" it into Eurasian integration. One of the articles in this document says that other international agreements signed by Ukraine in future should not contradict the provisions of its agreement with the EU.
