Ukraine is planning to raise USD 100mn loan from World Bank

The Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Public Utility Sector announced plans to attract a loan of USD 100 million from the World Bank to finance infrastructure projects under the National Project "Clean City", in particular, for the construction of waste treatment plants in 10 cities of Ukraine. This was discussed at a meeting of first deputy minister Yuriy Hivrych with WB representative.
The ministry has already drafted design and estimate documentation for the project to be implemented in Voznesensk, Ternopil, Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk. Selection of the six other cities continues.
According to Hivrych, the government is interested in obtaining additional funding from the WB to implement investment projects in water supply, drainage system (USD 200 million) and in the field of heat supply (USD 200 million).
The construction of waste treatment plants is envisaged by the National Project "Clean City", which the ministry will be implementing conjointly with the State Agency for National Projects Management using investment funds. In November 2010 the ministry had preliminary agreements with the EBRD and World Bank to on granting loans.
