Countries to lose 1-2% of GDP due to eurozone crisis - Strauss-Kahn

2013-05-28 12:16:48

The crisis in the European economy will affect the growth of the GDP of all states, former managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dominique Strauss-Kahn said in an interview for Primeminister.kz.

"I think that in the coming years, each country will lose 1-2% of GDP, including Kazakhstan, but this will be due solely to the situation in European countries", former head of the IMF noted.

According to him, this is due to the fact that the European economy is a large part of the world economy. The EU accounts for about 20% of world GDP.

"But, on the other hand, I can see that the other countries, including emerging markets, are coping well with all the challenges, so they will not have any collapse, but maybe only slowdown in the economy," he said.

"Of course, we cannot say that there are no problems in China or Brazil, but other countries are working in the right direction, and this is especially true of Kazakhstan. I mean, Kazakhstan has an opportunity to develop further," Mr. Strauss-Kahn stressed.
