Czech President calls for merger of Warsaw, Prague bourses

Czech President Milos Zeman would welcome a merger of Warsaw and Prague stock exchanges under the auspices of WSE and with Warsaw headquarters, noting a dynamic development of the Polish equity market, Zeman said during a Polish-Czech forum in Warsaw on Friday.
"I would like to propose a merger of the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) with the Prague Stock Exchange (PSE), with headquarters in Warsaw," Zeman said.
The move, although unpopular with PSE executives, could boost the PSE growth, he said. Zeman said the merger of the two stock exchanges would make them more competitive as he stressed the efficiency of the Warsaw bourse, which already lists seven Czech companies.
The proposal could be a tough sale for Zeman at home, he admits.
"I'm afraid it may be my last appearance as after I return to Prague the employees of the Prague bourse will greet me with stones," he said.
