Ukraine. Foreign trade deficit 32% down in Q1 - State Statistics Service

In January-March 2013, negative balance of foreign trade in goods reduced by 32% to UAH 1.986 billion.

The State Statistics Service informs about this.

“In Q1, 2013, export of goods made up USD 15.911 billion, import - UAH 17.898 billion. Against the same period of 2012, export made up 98.5%, import - 93.8%. Negative balance is USD 1.986 billion (in Q1, 2012, balance was negative too - USD 2.920 billion), a statement reads.

According to the State Statistics Service, the share of the import by export coverage made up 0.89 (in Q1, 2012 - 0.85).

As the State Statistics Service noted, the following commodity groups had an impact on the negative balance formation, such as mineral fuel, oil and its products (- 4.034 billion USD), overland transport vehicles, except for the railway transport (- 1.209 billion USD), electric machines (- 923.5 million USD), plastics, polymeric materials (- 614.5 million USD), pharmaceutical products (- 546.5 million USD).

Foreign trade operations were held with partners from 202 countries.

The largest export supplies were made to the Russian Federation - 23.2% of total export volume (railway locomotives, ferrous metals, grain crops, fertilizers), Italy - 4.2% (ferrous metals, grain crops, seeds and fruits of oil bearing crops).

Among the largest partner countries, export of goods grew to Italy by 42.3%, China - by 33.6%, Turkey - by 22.2%. Simultaneously, export reduced to the Russian Federation, Egypt and Poland, by 18.4%, 16.3% and 3.7% respectively.

The largest import supplies were from the Russian Federation - 30.3% (mineral fuel, oil and its products, ferrous metals, fertilizers), China - 12.6% (electric machines, footwear, mechanical machines), Germany - 8.1% (overland transport, except for the railway transport, mechanic and electric machines).

Import deliveries grew from China - by 59.5%, France - by 20.2% and Poland - by 18.6%. Supplies from the Russian Federation, Belarus, the U.S. and Germany reduced by 24.8%, by 14.1%, 12.2% and 1.2% respectively.

As reported by UKRINFORM, negative balance of foreign trade in Ukrainian goods in January-February 2013 made up USD 902.9 million.
