Ukraine. Dry hot weather causes concern

Dry and hot weather causes concern about the negative impact on crop conditions of both winter and spring grains.
In the South the soil is dry at 10cm depth, consequently, spring crops sown in late March and later suffer from the lack of moisture. As a result, the harvesting area and average yield may decrease.
Rains in the second half of May will have decisive influence of future grain crop. Meteorologists forecast rains all over Ukraine in the near future which will reduce grain losses. But if it doesn’t rain the losses can be significant.
UkrAgroConsult is going to reconsider its grain crop forecast depending on weather during the current week. However, as of May,13 our estimate remained unchanged – 52.2 MMT. We believe that USDA will reduce their forecast for Ukraine in the next report. In May’s report the estimate of USDA amounted to 56.6 MMT, including 22 MMT of wheat (forecast of UkrAgroConsult - 20.2 MMT) and 26 MMT of corn (21.8 MMT).
