Zero inflation recorded in Ukraine in April

Zero inflation was recorded in Ukraine in April 2013, and since the beginning of the year consumer prices have grown by 0.1%, the State Statistics Service has reported.

"The consumer price index in April 2013 was 100.0% and since the beginning of the year - 100.1%," reads the statement.

Prices for good and non-alcoholic beverages on the consumer market in April fell by 0.1%. The most significant drop (by 13.7%) was reported in prices for eggs. Prices for lard, processed cereals, milk, sour cream, rice, sugar, meat, cheese, margarine and sunflower oil shrank by 2-0.1%. At the same time, a significant rise (by 3.3% and 3%) was reported in prices for fruits and vegetables. Prices for pasta, bread and dairy products, butter, fish and fish products grew by 0.3-0.1%.

A rise in prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products by 1.1% was primarily triggered by a rise in prices for tobacco products by 1.8%.

Prices in the health sector grew by 0.2% due to a rise in prices for pharmaceuticals and outpatient services by 0.3%.

A rise in prices for transportation by 0.2% was mainly related to a rise in prices for passenger transportation by rail and road by 1.1% and 0.6% respectively. However, there was a 0.2% decrease in prices for fuel and lubricants.

Prices for telephone equipment, audio equipment, photographic and information processing equipment, appliances, clothing and shoes shrank by 0.6-0.1%.

As UKRINFORM reported, there was zero inflation in March 2013 compared with February 2013.
