Kazakhstan attracts $81.6 bln in foreign direct investment since 2009

Since the beginning of the State Program of Forced Industrial Innovative Development for 2009-2014 the country’s economy attracted 81.6 billion U.S. dollars in foreign direct investment, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Issekeshev has said today at a meeting of the Government.
“According to the data of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, during the period from 1993 till 2012 the volume of investment attracted to Kazakhstan was 171.2 billion U.S. dollars, of which 48% or 81.6 billion U.S. dollars was raised during 2009-2012 period,” Issekeshev stated.
According to him, in 2011, Kazakhstan attracted the record 20.8 billion dollars in foreign direct investment, which is by 9% more than the pre-crisis level.
The share of FDI in the production of crude oil and natural gas decreased by 18%, in the financial and insurance activity - by 2%.
The share of investment in geological exploration increased by 6%, in manufacturing industry – by 1%.
To date, work on 228 investment projects is underway. Of them 81 projects totaling 8.8 billion U.S. dollars have already been realized.
