Belarus foreign trade surplus nearly $280m in Q1 2013

In Q1 2013 Belarus’ foreign trade surplus totaled $279.4 million according to preliminary data. The information was released by Deputy Economy Minister of Belarus Alexander Yaroshenko on 25 April, BelTA has learned.
Last year, since August 2012 Belarus had a foreign trade deficit, pointed out the official.
“This year the data for January, February, and the preliminary data for March indicates that we have turned the trend around and I hope it will stay like that. In January-March the surplus of the foreign trade in commodities and services amounted to $279.4 million. It is preliminary data that indicates the growth of the foreign trade surplus,” noted the Economy Ministry representative. The current account situation improved in March as well.
In the two months Belarus had a foreign trade surplus of $191.5 million, roughly 2% of the GDP. It became possible thanks to the surplus of the foreign trade in services, explained Alexander Yaroshenko.
The export of potash fertilizers has increased considerably, more Belarusian dairy products are exported. The export of industrial goods has decreased.
