IMF will give Ukraine money in 2H13 - experts

2013-04-19 11:44:03

Experts predict that the first money from the International Monetary Fund will come to Ukraine in the second half of 2013, the Podrobnosti reported.

"I rate our chances of getting up to $15 billion from the IMF as very high. It is important to reach an agreement with this structure, but I would not force events - a rapid decision of the IMF board of directors is unlikely. Final conclusions will be drawn upon completion of all the negotiations," says the director general of the investment and banking firm European Capital Management, Vadym Brailovsky.

In his view, the resumption of IMF lending will benefit the development of the Ukrainian economy and give a positive signal to foreign investors from the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asian countries, particularly, China and India.

An analyst with the International Centre for Policy Studies, Oleksandr Zholud, agrees with his colleague that a rapid decision of the IMF is unlikely. "The negotiations are continuing, and it is necessary to wait for their completion. But even then we will not get the first money. I predict that this year we will resume cooperation, but we will get the first tranche in the second year-half," he said.

As reported, a delegation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the National Bank will continue negotiations with the IMF during the Fund's annual meeting on April 19-21.

The IMF mission was staying in Kyiv from March 27 to April 10.
