IMF predicts GDP growth in Ukraine at 2.8% in 2014

2013-04-17 14:06:48

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has predicted that the Ukrainian economy will grow in 2014 by 2.8%.

This is stated in the IMF's April report entitled "World Economic Outlook," which was released on Tuesday, UKRINFORM reported.

"In 2012, the growth of the Ukrainian economy amounted to 0.2%, the outlook for 2013 is 0%, and for 2014 - 2.8%," reads the report.

At the same time, the unemployment rate in the country in the current year, according to the fund's experts, will reach 8.2%, and next year it will shrink to 7.9%.

The IMF also estimated the deficit of the current account deficit of Ukraine's balance of payments at 7.9% of GDP in 2013 and at 7.8% in 2014. IMF experts projected inflation in Ukraine in 2013 at 0.5% and in 2014 at 4.7%.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov predicted that GDP growth in 2013 was expected to reach around 3%. However, Azarov said that the government hopes for moderate inflation in 2013. He said that the Cabinet of Ministers would not allow deflation, as it was last year.

The government agreed on these figures with the IMF. "We have our own vision of how the Ukrainian economy develops next year, and the International Monetary Fund has its own. The process of the convergence of positions is currently underway," Azarov said.
