Scenarios of Black Sea oilseeds market development

Scenarios of Black Sea oilseeds market development in the season 2013/14 will be described by Yulia Garkavenko, Analyst, UkrAgroConsult at the Xth International Conference “Black Sea Grain: Export Forever!”.
"The most popular oilseed crop in the world is soy. World annual production of soybeans is more than 260 MMT. The largest soy producers are the United States, Brazil and Argentina. Share of these countries accounts for more than 80% of global production.
In the countries of the Black Sea region and the CIS soybeans are produced in relatively small volumes, and its share in the global production volume is scanty – no more than 2%.
Since 2008 soybean acreage in the Black Sea region began to grow and in 2012 reached its historic record high – 3.16 million hectares. In 5 years (2008-2012), soybean acreage increased by 1.7 million hectares or 119%.
According to UkrAgroConsult estimates, in 2012/13 season soybean harvest in the Black Sea region and the CIS countries rose to 4.5 MMT or 2.9% compared to 4.4 MMT in 2011/12 season. And this is not the limit ......
In the nearest years, we expect a significant increase in soybean production in the Black Sea region. First of all, this will allow reduction of dependence on soybeans/soy meal import, as well as its replacement, while some of the countries can even increase own exports”, - comments Yulia.
Further consideration of these issues will take place at the Discussion Panel “Ukrainian Agricultural Export and Global Food Security” within International Conference “Black Sea Grain-2013”.
