The revival of external demand for Ukrainian metals and a favorable base of comparison mean an improvement in the dynamics of Ukraine's GDP can be expected in the first quarter of 2013, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Anatoliy Maksiuta has said.

"I think the figures will be better than at the end of last year. However, it is difficult to talk about specific numbers at the moment. The situation on the metal market is a little bit better. We hope that this will yield some growth," he told reporters on Tuesday.

In addition, he said that the timely adoption of the national budget for 2013 gives grounds to expect the beginning of financing capital investments, which will also support the growth of the economy. However, the official said that deflation observed in the country is one of the factors restraining the GDP dynamics.

The official also said that after the first quarter of 2013 the ministry would consider making adjustments to the macroeconomic forecasts for the current year, taking into account the implementation of the government's initiatives on improving the economic situation.
