Belarus foreign trade surplus at $142.6m in January

In January 2013 the surplus of Belarus’ foreign trade in commodities and services amounted to $142.6 million. The preliminary data for January 2013 is now available on the website of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
In January 2013 the foreign trade in commodities and services dropped by 9% compared with January 2012 to €6.675 billion. Export dropped by 13% from January 2012 to $3.409 billion. Import shrank by 4.5% to $3.266 billion.
In January 2013 the foreign merchandise trade totaled $5.991 billion, 89.6% as against January 2012. Merchandise export reached $2.952 billion (84%), with import exceeding $3 billion (95.9%). The deficit of the merchandise trade amounted to $86.7 million.
In January 2013 the foreign trade in services rose by 5% as against the same period of last year to reach $684.5 million. Export rose by 13.4% to reach $456.9 million. Import of services dropped by 8.6% as against January 2012 to $227.6 million. The surplus of the foreign trade in services amounted to $229.3 million.
