Turkey trade gap widens in January

Turkey's trade deficit widened to $7.29 billion in January from $7.12 billion in the prior year, the Turkish Statistical Institute said Thursday. The deficit was larger than the expected shortfall of $7.1 billion.
According to the provisional data, exports gained 11.2 percent annually to $11.5 billion and imports advanced 7.6 percent to $18.8 billion. Calendar adjusted exports grew 7.9 percent and imports climbed 7.6 percent from the previous year.
On a monthly basis, exports gained 2 percent and imports surged 9 percent in January.
