EBRD points out Belarus economy stabilization

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development points out considerable success achieved by Belarus in stabilizing the economy. The matter was discussed at bilateral consultations between First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Mr Alexander Mikhnevich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Mr Sergei Aleinik and top managers of the EBRD on 25 February, the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told BelTA.

At the consultations the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was represented by EBRD First Vice President Philip Bennett, directors Olivier Descamps, Alan Rousso, Paul-Henri Forestier.

At the meetings and discussions the sides talked over the progress of the work on the draft strategy meant to guide Belarus in the next three years, several programs that the EBRD is implementing in Belarus were mentioned. The current macroeconomic situation and prospects of future interaction were discussed.

EBRD representatives underlined the considerable success achieved in stabilizing the Belarus economy and remarked that the preparation of the strategy is aimed at working out a compromise-based and balanced document that will meet interests of all the sides.

At a meeting of the Belarusian delegation with Mr Jaakko Henttonen, Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership program director, the sides discussed practical steps in the projects to modernize water purification installations in three oblast capitals. The projects were started by the Partnership in association with the EBRD and other international institutions last year.
