Czech food and chemicals group Agrofert has signed a deal to buy German bakery chain Lieken from Italian pasta maker Barilla for an undisclosed sum, Barilla said in a statement. The sale is in line with Barilla aim to focus on growing its core business. Dusseldorf-based Lieken is Germany's leading bakery specialist. It produces and sells bread and bakery products under Golden Toast brand. "Germany is one of the key markets of Agrofert's operations and further growth of the bakery business is one of the core parts of the development strategy for our food division" Agrofert's chairman Andrej Babis said. Agrofert has a significant presence in the bakery business in the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Hungary, where it is active in the production and distribution of fresh and packaged bread, rolls, pastries and flour.
