Renewable energy companies join forces in Latvia

Renewable energy, the mandatory purchase component and the associated costs are suddenly one of the main issues facing the Latvian economy.
Now, seven Latvian trade associations and NGOs have founded the Latvian Renewable Energy Federation (Latvijas Atjaunojamas energijas federacija; LAEF) to present their side of the story.
LAEF notes that, until now, the organisations have not always presented a coherent picture about their position. This has lead to popular misconceptions about renewable energy and its role, which LAEF seeks to correct.
Contrary to the popular belief which claims that renewable energy companies are receiving unfair advantages at the expense of electricity users, LAEF also believes that the existing legislation actually hinders the development of the field. Therefore, it also aims to lobby for legislative changes in the field.
