Deputy Minister of Economy Anatolii Maksuta said last week that Government intends to control food prices. He blamed food price increases on limited competition and price fixing by food merchants. He said the government is planning to develop a strategy to forecast increases and prevent them from occurring. This should be easy as all the government of Ukraine needs to know is its own plans to increase fuel costs amongst other food input costs. However given the lack of coordination in Ukraine’s government this may not be so easy.
