Belarus’ trade with WTO countries up by 8% in 2012 to $89bn

Belarus’ trade with the WTO countries increased by 8.1% in 2012 from 2011 to a total of $89 billion. This accounted for 97% of Belarus’ total trade. The customs statistics data are posted on the website of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, BelTA has learnt.

Belarus’ exports to the WTO countries went up by 10.6% in 2012 and amounted to $43.5 billion; imports increased by 5.8% and totaled $45.5 billion. The deficit was $1.9 billion.

Trade with Russia rose significantly (by $4.2 billion), Ukraine (by $1.7 billion), the Netherlands ($1.6 billion), Lithuania ($403.3 million). The trade with Venezuela went down (by $763.9 million), Brazil ($594.9 million), Azerbaijan ($511.3 million).

Trade with the Russian Federation rose by 10.7% as against 2011 and made up $43.5 billion. Belarus had a foreign trade deficit of $11.3 billion. Exports to Russia increased by 12.7%, imports by 9.5%.

Trade with Ukraine surged by 27.3% to a total of $7.9 billion, with Belarus’ having a foreign trade surplus of $3.3 billion. Exports grew by 33.9%, imports increased by 13.8%.

The trade with Kazakhstan was up 18% from 2011 to reach $913.6 million. Belarus posted trade surplus at the total of $674.2 million. Exports grew 24.7%, imports reduced by 13.2%.

As for the CIS, Belarus increased trade with Moldova (up $18.4 million to $338.7 million), Uzbekistan (up $15.6 million to $123.7 million), Armenia (up $13.4 million to $45.6 million), and Turkmenistan (up $13 million to $236.3 million). Trade reduced with Azerbaijan (up $511.3 million to $222.7 million), Kyrgyzstan (up $73.7 million to $153.5 million), and Tajikistan (up $15 million to $57.7 million).

According to the preliminary customs statistics, the trade with non-CIS made up 41.8% of the total. The trade of Belarus with the EU countries totaled $27.1 billion, up 10.8% in 2012 (29.5% of the country’s total trade). Exports reached $17.6 billion and increased by 12.2%, import made up $9.5 billion (up 8.2%). Belarus posted a $8.1 surplus.

On the whole, Belarus’ foreign trade in goods in 2012 totaled $91.8 billion, up 5.5% on 2011. Exports reached $45.5 billion, up 10.8% from 2011. Exports in goods increased by 16.9% to $23.5 billion to the CIS, made up $22 billion, up 5%, to non-CIS.

Imports climbed up by 0.9% to $46.3 billion. supplies from the CIS went up by 7.5% to $30 billion, those from non-CIS reduced by 9.4% to $16.3 billion.
