In particular, National Bank's Deputy Governor Oleksiy Tkachenko notes that for the first time following three years of unprofitable activities the national banking sector reached the profitable level, UKRINFORM reports.

"The fact is very important for us that following three years of unprofitable activities, the national banking sector reached the profitable level. Over 2012, income of the banking system made up almost UAH 5 billion, whereas over 2011, banks suffered losses at UAH 7.7 billion. Among banks, which demonstrated the best financial result in 2012, such banks as Privatbank, Ukrgasbank, VTB Bank and Oshchadbank showed the best financial result," Tkachenko said.

He noted that alongside with this, last year, growth of statutory capital was fixed at UAH 3 billion to UAH 175 billion.

"State banks and Privatbank have the largest amount of statutory capital," the NBU Deputy Governor specified.

Tkachenko expressed conviction that for today there are all grounds to hope that these positive trends in banks' activities will be further strengthen.

"On its part, the National Bank of Ukraine will further promote stability and stable development of the banking system for effective fulfillment of main functions, primarily, ensuring the economic growth of our state," Tkachenko summed up.
