Tajikistan to become WTO full member on March 2

Having presented the notice of ratification of the protocol on Tajikistan's joining the Marrakech Agreement establishing WTO, Tajikistan will become a full member of WTO on March 2, the Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan announced on Friday.
“The notice of ratification of the protocol on Tajikistan's joining the Marrakech Agreement was officially presented to the WTO Secretariat,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The notice was presented by Tajikistan's Ambassador to UN and other international organizations in Geneva Salohiddin Nasriddinov to WTO Deputy Director Alejandro Jara on January 31.
The Ambassador conveyed the gratitude of the President of Tajikistan to WTO management and said upon accession into WTO Tajikistan will comply with its commitments in a timely manner and will take an active part in WTO activities, the Foreign Ministry added.
The Parliament of Tajikistan ratified the protocol on Tajikistan's joining the Marrakech Agreement on January9, the protocol was signed on 10 December 2012 in Geneva.
Tajikistan will become the second WTO member in Central Asia after Kyrgyzstan and 159th member of WTO. Tajikistan applied for WTO membership in May 2001.
The Tajik authorities believe WTO accession will ease access to the world markets for Tajikis producers and improve the country's investment climate.
