Customs Union draft agribusiness policy approved

The Advisory Committee for Agribusiness under the Eurasian Economic Commission has as a whole approved the draft concept of the coordinated agribusiness policy of the member states of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space. The information was released by the press service of the Commission after the Committee’s session held in Moscow under the chairmanship of Mr Sergei Sidorsky, Eurasian Economic Commission Minister for Industry and Agribusiness, BelTA has learned.

The draft concept was presented by Ms Nadezhda Kotkovets, Director of the Agribusiness Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission. The document had been prepared by the Department with assistance of government agencies in charge of agribusiness administration of the Customs Union member states. The concept provides for step by step rapprochement of agrarian policy mechanisms, for taking joint measures in the future to support the stable operation of the market and develop the manufacturing potential. The document deals with a large number of matters regarding the budget, finance, and pricing policies, which are managed by government agencies of the Customs Union member states. This is why participants of the session decided to additionally agree the draft concept with the sides. The draft concept was adjusted taking into account comments and proposals voiced at the session.

It was also decided to create working groups for the main avenues of the coordinated agribusiness policy of the member states of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space. The working groups under the aegis of the Advisory Committee for Agribusiness will take care of forecasting, state support, pricing policy, common requirements for the manufacturing and turnover of animal products, common requirements for the manufacturing and turnover of plant products, scientific and technical cooperation, and information support.

Taking part in the Committee’s operation were Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister of Belarus Mr Vasily Kazakevich, Deputy Agriculture Minister of Russia Mr Ilya Shestakov, Vice Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Mr Muslim Umiryayev, Head of Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Mr Sergei Dankvert, and other representatives of government agencies in charge of agribusiness of the Customs Union member states.
