IMF also interested in cooperation with Ukraine - expert

Both Ukraine and the IMF are interested in cooperation and the signature of an agreement on the stand-by program.
Executive Director of the International Bleyzer Foundation Oleh Ustenko expressed such an opinion to UKRINFORM.
“I would like to estimate the chances for getting a credit from the IMF as rather good. All depends on adaptableness of the two parties. And I hope that both understand that it is necessary to come to an agreement. And the IMF understands that Ukraine will have large payments on debts this year,” Ustenko has said.
According to the expert, negotiations will be difficult, at the same time, each of the parties will defend its positions.
“The IMF will insist on reduction of the Ukrainian budget deficit to 2.5% of GDP. A position of the Ukrainian party will consist in the fact that under such deficit, growth of the Ukrainian economy will be suppressed very strongly and will defend the budget deficit at 3.5%,” the economist said, having expressed hope that a compromise decision will be found in this issue.
As the economist added, renewal of cooperation with the IMF, will allow Ukraine to get multibillion financing from the World Bank.
“Ukraine wants to unblock a cooperation program with the World Bank. The World Bank financing may reach USD 2 billion a year,” the expert noted.
To remind, the IMF Mission will start working in Ukraine on January 29 and will stay in Kyiv until February 12.
