Tunisia gets 500-mln-USD loan from World Bank to revive economy

The World Bank has granted Tunisia a 500-million-U.S. dollar loan to support the country's 2013 budget, the official TAP press agency reported on Friday.
The loan agreement was signed by Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, who paid a two-day official visit to Tunisia.
Following his meeting with Jebali, Kim said despite a difficult economic situation, the World Bank would continue to assist Tunisia's economic recovery.
"The long-term loan was granted at favorable conditions so as not to affect the country's economic and financial balances," said Riadh Bettaieb, Tunisia's minister of investment and international cooperation.
Two years after the unrest that led to the ouster of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, Tunisia still awaits a full stop to political instability and a genuine rejuvenation of the national economy.
