Azarov expects $1.6 b as investment in major industrial projects

2013-01-16 12:16:36

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said he hopes that investors will invest $1.6 billion this year in the construction of large industrial facilities in Ukraine.

He said this at a government meeting on Wednesday.

"Over 30 large industrial facilities were commissioned last year alone. Over $1.5 billion was invested in these facilities... Investors are planning to invest 1.6 billion dollars in development," Azarov said.

He recalled that Ukraine commissioned a powerful modern arc-furnace steel plant in Dnipropetrovsk in 2012, and added that a modern steel plant was commissioned in Kyiv region, and the construction of a nuclear fuel production plant began in Kirovohrad region.

The prime minister also added that the industry of building materials actively developed last year as new concrete plants appeared in Kyiv and Cherkasy regions, plants for the production of dry construction mixes - in Kyiv region, glass production plants - in Donetsk region, and plants for the production of modern energy efficient building plates - in Zhytomyr.

"We should support in every way such investment enthusiasm, business activity on our market and entrepreneurial calculation in difficult conditions of economic skepticism on foreign markets. Accordingly, the government is developing a set of measures aimed at the further stimulation of economic development and production in Ukraine, more oriented to the domestic market," the prime minister said.
