Ukraine ups trade by 3.4% in ten months of 2012

Ukraine's trade turnover in January-October 2012 rose to USD 143.8 billion compared with USD 139 billion in the same period in 2011, a source at the Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry has told a UKRINFORM correspondent.

"Growth in Ukraine's total trade turnover was 3.4% in the first ten months of 2012. Exports of goods and services grew by 2%, and imports rose by 4.7%," the source said.

In particular, exports of goods and services amounted to USD 68.3 billion, and imports of goods and services reached USD 75.5 billion, with the deficit standing at USD 7.2 billion. In the first ten months of 211 these figures were USD 66.9 billion, USD 72.1 billion and USD 5.1 billion respectively.

In the first ten months of 2012, Ukraine's trade turnover with CIS countries fell from USD 58 billion (in the first ten months of 2011) to USD 56.1 billion. Ukraine's exports to CIS countries amounted to USD 26.1 billion (USD 26.5 billion in the first ten months of 2011), and imports - USD 30.03 billion (USD 31.5 billion). Over this period, the deficit of trade with CIS countries shrank by almost USD 1 billion, from USD 4.9 billion in 2011 to USD 3.9 billion in 2012.

In the first ten months of 2012, Ukraine's trade turnover with the countries of the Customs Union was USD 52.976 billion. Exports amounted to USD 23.401 billion, and imports reached USD 29.575 billion, with the deficit being USD 6.174 billion. Trade turnover in the same period in 2011 was USD 53.9 billion, with exports standing at USD 24.4 billion, imports at USD 29.6 billion and the deficit at USD 5.4 billion.

Ukraine's trade with the EU amounted to USD 41.2 billion, including exports - USD 16.939 billion, and imports - USD 24.338 billion. The deficit reached USD 7.339 billion. In the first ten months of 2011, Ukraine's trade turnover with the EU amounted to USD 41.4 billion, including exports of USD 17.9 billion and imports of USD 23.5 billion. The deficit was USD 5.5 billion.

Ukraine's trade with the world's leading countries in the first ten months of 2012 increased mainly due to imports of goods and services. In particular, Ukraine's trade with the United States rose to USD 4.29 billion (USD 3.9 billion in the first ten months of 2011), with exports being USD 1.48 billion (USD 1.49 billion) and imports USD 2.8 billion (USD 2.4 billion). Ukraine's trade with China grew to USD 8.1 billion (USD 6.8 billion), with exports falling to USD 1.59 billion (USD 1.76 billion), and imports rising to USD 6.5 billion (USD 5 billion). The deficit rose to USD 4.97 billion (USD 3.27 billion).

Ukraine's trade turnover with Russia dropped to USD 43 billion (USD 45.9 billion), with exports falling to USD 19.18 billion (USD 20.9 billion) and imports shrinking to USD 23.8 billion (USD 24.9 billion). The trade deficit rose to USD 4.67 billion (USD 4 billion).
