Romania expert predicts possible reduction of Ukrainian exports to Moldova

2012-12-27 14:39:56

Moldova's transition to free trade with the European Union could reduce imports of Ukrainian food to the country, and Romania as the EU member will play the main role in providing Moldova with food products.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Romanian publication Libera by Director of the Institute for Political Science and International Relations of the Academy of Sciences of Romania Dan Dungaciu, the UKRINFORM correspondent in Moldova reported.

"Following the liberalization of the visa regime and the transition of Moldova to free trade with the EU, the volume of food imports from Ukraine to Moldova will significantly reduce, and a major role in ensuring the country with food products will be played by Romania as an EU member, that is, by Romanian companies," the expert said.

He attributed his statement to the fact that, "with free trade between Moldova and the EU, Ukrainian goods, which should be subject to additional duties, will significantly rise in price, and the exports thus will be unprofitable to Ukraine."
