Ukraine, Belarus boost trade to $8 billion

2012-12-21 14:35:11

The trade turnover between Belarus and Ukraine in 2012 will be close to $8 billion, Belarus Ambassador to Ukraine Valentin Velichko told a press conference in Kyiv Thursday.

"Over the past few years we have managed to increase trade between the two countries. This year it is somewhere close to $8 billion, and last year it was $6.2 billion," he said.

According to Velichko, mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries is supervised by the Ukrainian-Belarusian intergovernmental commission and directly the first deputy prime ministers, who twice a year sum up the results of bilateral cooperation and define its further prospects.

According to the Belarusian ambassador, today Ukraine is the second largest trading partner for Belarus after Russia. At the same time, for Ukraine Belarus became the fourth biggest country in terms of bilateral trade, after Russia, China and Germany.
