This opinion was expressed by President of the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Ukraine) Volodymyr Shchelkunov, who commented on the UN's negative outlook for the global economy.
 
"Ukraine can strengthen its positions in the world markets and increase by 1.5-2 times the volume of its grain exports,” Shchelkunov said, adding, “We realize that Ukrainian farmers and agricultural holdings have earnings due to international prices, and the profitability of Ukrainian enterprises would be much higher if they exported not raw grain but derived products. Ukraine's processing facilities are not fully loaded to use raw grain crops for the production of flour and different types of cereals."
 
Earlier, the rating agency Fitch predicted that the agricultural sector in Ukraine will continue to be under the pressure of a high risk of intervention by regulators through changing quotas and tariffs, as well as other trade restrictions. This is particularly true in relation to Ukraine because of the potential shortage of crop production and the need for individuals making political decisions to take into account the fact that agricultural prices make a large share of the base cost of consumer goods, Fitch said.
