German inflation rate eases to 1.9 pct in November

German consumer prices in November increased by 1.9 percent from the same period of 2011, compared with a 2 percent year-on-year increase in the previous month, the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said here on Wednesday.
An inflation rate below 2 percent was last registered in July 2012, when the annual consumer price increase reached 1.7 percent.
Destatis said the easing of inflation was largely due to energy prices which saw a smaller increase of 3.8 percent than in the months before.
The harmonized index of consumer prices for Germany, calculated with the European Central Bank's (ECB) inflation yardstick, rose by 1.9 percent in November. This was below the 2 percent target of the ECB over the medium term.
The average inflation rate in the eurozone fell to 2.2 percent in November from 2.5 percent in the previous month.
