World Trade Organization General Council adopts resolution on Tajikistan's WTO accession

The World Trade Organization General Council adopted the protocol and resolution on Tajikistan's WTO accession, as well as the report of the working group at its meeting in Geneva on Monday.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon called accession of Tajikistan into the World Trade Organization an important moment in development of the country.

“This is one of steady steps towards transition of the country to market relations,” President Rahmon said in his address to the WTO General Council in Geneva on Monday.

Tajikistan's WTO accession is moment for further sustainable socio-economic development of the country, he said.

The President of Tajikistan took a note of aid of the donor countries and international organization in regulation of the trade relations according to international standards. He expressed hope for further cooperation in this area.

Rahmon assured Tajikistan would comply with undertaken commitments and would follow major WTO principles.

During his visit to Geneva the President of Tajikistan met with WTO Director General Pascal Lamy.

“The sides expressed satisfaction over the productive cooperation between Tajikistan and WTO and found expansion of relations of a primary importance,” the Tajik president's press service reported.

Rahmon expressed confidence Tajikistan will productively take advantage of its WTO membership for further development of the country's economy and improvement of living standards of the population.
