Prysiazhniuk: Ukraine exports 12.2 m tons of grain in two months

2012-12-06 15:02:44

Ukraine has exported 12.2 million tons of grain as of the beginning of December 2012. In particular, over the last two months, Ukraine supplied 5.6 million tons of wheat to foreign markets, which was twice more than in October-November 2011.

Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk announced this at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday, a UKRINFORM correspondent reported.

"Over the past two months, Ukraine exported twice more wheat than last year. Ukraine has proved that it is a stable and predictable grain exporter," the minister said.

He also said that Ukraine was able to ensure the country's food security without a decision to limit exports of grain crops.

According to the minister, of the total amount of grain exports (12.2 million tons), Ukraine exported 5.6 million tons of wheat, 4.7 million tons of corn and 1.8 million tons of barley.

In early October, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry said that Ukraine would limit exports of wheat if its reserves are not enough to ensure food security.
