Agriculture Ministry: Trade between Ukraine and South Korea grows fivefold

2012-11-29 11:23:44

Trade between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea in the first nine months of this year totaled USD 215 million, which was five times more than in the same period last year.

Ukrainian First Deputy Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Ivan Bisiuk said this at a meeting with a delegation from the Republic of Korea on Wednesday, the press service of the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry reported.

"Economic and political relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea are extremely important areas of foreign policy in the Asian region. A sign of this is the fact that in the first nine months of this year bilateral trade in agricultural products amounted to more than 215 million dollars and increased by five times compared to last year. Of the 5.5 million tons of wheat exported by Ukraine this year, almost one million tons was supplied sent to Korea. It's a significant amount," he said.

Minister of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea Suh Kyu Yong, in turn, confirmed the importance of exports of Ukrainian agricultural products, particularly wheat, to Korea and said that the signing of a memorandum on cooperation in agriculture between the two countries would strengthen the trade in agricultural products and deepen cooperation in various fields of agriculture in Ukraine and the Republic of Korea.

"Ukraine is a stable partner in the supply of agricultural products. And today our agribusiness representatives are ready to invest in Ukraine's agriculture. Therefore, we are very interested in cooperation with you. Today we are planning to sign a memorandum that will help deepen cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Ukraine in the agricultural sector," Suh Kyu Yong said.
