Introduction of a 15-percent tax on the sale of foreign currency poses a threat of the currency market shadowing, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Petro Poroshenko told a briefing on Monday.

"This bill has been rejected, and I believe that this decision was absolutely right, because today we cannot burden and create an additional loading for normal business transactions. I think it bears a huge threat of shadowing of a significant part of the market and, in fact, a loss of competitiveness of the Ukrainian economy," said the Minister.

As reported, chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, banking, tax and customs policy Vitaliy Khomutynnyk proposed adding to the list of payers of the tax on mandatory state pension insurance the individuals selling foreign currency for the cash hryvnia. The tax rate will be 15% at the official exchange rate of the hryvnia to foreign currencies on the day of transaction. Bill 11433 to this effect was put on the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada on November 20, but the relevant committee proposed its withdrawal for finalizing. The Parliament postponed consideration of the bill.
