Ukraine improves in global competitiveness index in a year

Ukraine jumped 9 notches to rank 73rd among 144 countries in the Global Competitiveness Index 2012, Xinhua reported citing a World Economic Forum (WEF) official, the Beijing-based UKRINFORM reporter said on Monday.
"We believe that there are some factors which constrain development in Ukraine. It is, above all, weak state institutions," senior WEF project manager in Ukraine Vitaly Kovalenko told a press conference.
Kovalenko said Ukraine benefits from improved innovative technologies and technological readiness, as well as from the efficient labor market, good performance of higher education and healthcare system.
Despite the positive trends, Kovalenko said, some weakness remains to be addressed, particularly instability of public policy, inefficiency of the state apparatus and corruption, according to Xinhua.
