Ukraine earns $21 million from electricity export to Europe in September

Ukraine's income from electricity exports to Eastern Europe in September 2012 increased by 39.6% or $5.9 million compared to the same period in 2011, to $20.88 million, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

The volume of electricity exports to Europe increased by 79.7% (1.8 times) and reached 338.4 million kWh. And the average price of Ukrainian electricity decreased by 22.3% (1.77 cents/kWh) to 6.17 cents per kilowatt-hour.

In particular, exports of Ukrainian electricity to Hungary amounted to 203.2 million kWh, or 60% of all exports to Europe, to the tune of $14 million at a price of 6.87 cents per kilowatt-hour. Compared to September 2011, Ukrainian electricity supplies to that country increased by 13.2%, and its price fell by 14.6%, or 1.18 cents.

Electricity exports to Poland in September this year were 120.1 million kWh (35.5% of the supply) for $5.87 million at a price of 4.89 cents per kilowatt-hour. In September 2011, there were no exports to Poland.

In September 2012, Ukraine also supplied electricity to Romania and Slovakia in the amounts of 9.38 million kWh and 5.76 million kWh, respectively, at a price of 7.01 cents and 6.76 cents per kilowatt-hour. Total revenue from the supply of electricity to those countries amounted to $1.05 million. In September 2011, Ukraine did not export electricity to Romania, while exports to Slovakia made 8.84 million kWh for $510.2 thousand at the price of 5.77 cents per kilowatt-hour.

As reported, in 2012, Ukrainian electricity was exported to Europe by the company LLC DTEK Vostokenergo, which gained access to the bandwidth of Ukraine's international power grids at the annual auction of SE NEC Ukrenergo.

According to the results of a similar auction for 2013, the export of electricity to Europe will be conducted by DTEK Trading.

In 2011, Ukraine increased electricity exports by 55.02% compared with 2010, to 6.322 billion kWh for $430.5 million. Its average price rose by 38.6%, from 4.9 cents per kilowatt-hour to 6.8 cents per kilowatt-hour.
