Statistics: Foreign trade deficit grows by 1.6 times in nine months

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in the first nine months of 2012 amounted to USD 6.473 billion, which was 1.6 times more than in the same period in 2011, when the foreign trade deficit was USD 3.983 billion, the State Statistics Service reported on Thursday.
"Exports of goods and services in the first three quarters of 2012 grew to USD 60.803 billion (in the first nine months of 2011 - USD 59.991 billion), whereas imports rose to USD 67.276 billion (USD 63.973 billion)," according to the service.
The deficit in trade with CIS countries shrank to USD 3.54 billion in the first nine months of 2012, compared to USD 4.34 billion in the same period last year. The deficit in trade with other countries was USD 2.93 billion (a surplus of USD 358.9 million in the first nine months of 2011).
In the first nine months of 2012, the deficit of trade with EU countries rose to USD 6.542 billion, compared to USD 4.45 billion in the same period last year.
As UKRINFORM reported, the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in the first half of the year was USD 3.855 billion.
